Let’s talk about the Honolulu J2FC+ and J2NF series, the newest members of the J2 family and, frankly, the sweet-spot king of hybrid paddles. If you’ve swung the OG J2 (carbon-faced hybrid), J2K (kevlar-faced), or J2Ti (titanium-faced), you’ll feel right at home, but this new generation of foam paddles adds four fresh flavors: J2FC+, J2NF, J2NFK, and J2NFT. Feeling dizzy yet? Don’t worry, I’ll untangle the alphabet soup.

Sword & Shield J2FC+ (Full-foam core + floating foam core): An entirely foam core paddle with Gen 3 Floating core (hence “FC” & "+") in the J2 shape. This paddle uses a foam core (no traditional honeycomb) to create a very soft feel and a huge sweet spot. The “+” means it has some reinforcing floating foam, i.e., gen 3 twist as well. It delivers exceptional consistency and vibration dampening, but durability and performance over time are still being evaluated. T

Sword & Shield J2NF (Full-foam core + 320-degree EVA ring core): A firmer version of the J2FC+, the J2NF features a solid all-foam core with a carbon face but no floating foam layer. This results in a sharper launch angle, tighter feedback, and a slightly stiffer overall feel compared to the FC+. Ideal for players who want foam-based control but with more defined power and response. Think of it as a Gen 4-style hybrid paddle, less plush, more precision.

Sword & Shield J2NFK (Same core as NF, but with the Kevlar Face): The J2NFK blends the unique softness of a foam core with the high control and grit of a Kevlar weave face. The J2NFK is designed to offer a crisper feel, enhanced stability, and added power on drives, while still preserving the foam’s vibration-damping. The Kevlar surface provides excellent spin potential while maintaining the core's plushness. Ideal for soft game specialists who want extra bite without sacrificing comfort.

Sword & Shield J2NFT (Same core as NF, but with the Titanium Face): A futuristic fusion of a full foam core and a Titanium-infused PET composite surface layered with carbon. The result is a paddle built for a little more dwell time, control, spin, and feel at the net. Best suited for players looking for a firmer, more reactive touch without the trampoline pop of Gen 3 paddles.

The Honolulu Sword & Shield J2 full foam core series paddles come standard with the familiar 5.3-inch handle (or 5.5 inches when including the taper). The J2NF LH and J2FC+ LH are now also offered with a longer 5.8-inch handle (about 6 inches with the taper), achieved by reshaping the taper into a more squared-off design. While this slightly reduces the sweet spot, it gives you a whippier feel with the extended handle and is an excellent option for two-handed backhands. I believe the other models, the J2NFK and J2NFT, will also come with a similar longer handle option in the future.

Why Full-Foam Core Matters

  • Multi-density foam core (no honeycomb) for a soft, consistent feel
  • Exceptional vibration dampening: easy on elbows and shoulders
  • Massive sweet spot for forgiving off-center hits
  • Durable: foam resists crushing and delamination better than honeycomb cores

Foam, Foam, and More Foam

All four models share a multi-density full-foam core, but each has its own twist:

Model Core / Ring Face Material Price Quick Personality Sketch
J2FC+ Full foam core plus floating-foam ring Carbon $195 ($175.50 with SLICE10) Linear power, plush dwell, Gen 3 pop restraint
J2NF Full foam core + 320° EVA ring Carbon $195 ($175.50 with SLICE10) Slightly firmer, punchier launch
J2NFK Same EVA ring Kevlar $195 ($175.50 with SLICE10) Crisp Contact, vibration sponge
J2NFT Same EVA ring Titanium-PET $195 ($175.50 with SLICE10) Soft, Spinny, Neutral “Goldilocks” feel

Honolulu’s marketing calls these “Gen 5,” but in play, they feel more like a polished Gen 4 (think CRBN TruFoam) than the spring-loaded Gen 3 rockets. They might even be the first true full-foam, hybrid-shape paddles missing from the CRBN lineup, and maybe the best yet.

Availability & Pricing

  • The entire J2NF series (USAP-approved) and J2FC+ (USAP-approved as well) (not USAP-approved… yet 😏) are open for preorder now at $195.
  • Use code SLICE10 for 10 % off → $175.50.

J2FC+ (Plush Powerhouse)

Feel & Sweet Spot

  • Ultra-soft foam with a floating-foam ring gives the most “pillowy” impact of the four and best dwell time to shape the ball.
  • Massive sweet spot: mishits stay in play, even on off-center strikes.

Who It’s For

  • Arm-sensitive players who need maximum vibration dampening.
  • Dinkers and drop-shot artists who relish long dwell times for precise control.
  • Beginners or weekend warriors wanting forgiveness on off-center hits.

Pros

  • Effortless touch for soft game: drops, resets, soft spins.
  • Minimal elbow/shoulder stress.
  • Predictable, linear power build-up.

Cons

  • Less immediate “pop” on drives compared to firmer foams.
  • Slightly slower feedback for players who crave sharp tactile cues.

J2NF - Precision Launcher

Feel & Launch

  • Firm EVA ring around a full-foam core produces a tighter, flatter ball trajectory.
  • Shorter dwell than FC+, so you feel the rebound nearly instantly.

Who It’s For

  • Aggressive all-courters who like to drive hard but don’t want the ball skying off the face.
  • Transition players who move between the baseline and the kitchen and need a consistent response.
  • Competitors who demand a sharp, predictable launch angle on flicks and topspin.

Pros

  • High raw power rating (9/10).
  • Flatter, more penetrating shots, ideal for quick drive exchanges.
  • Crisp feedback without a harsh vibe.

Cons

  • Slightly less dwell for nuanced soft shots.
  • Firmer feels can be less forgiving on off-center hits.

J2NFK - All Courter's Dream

Feel & Spin

  • Kevlar face + foam core creates a “velvet bite”, excellent for brushing heavy topspin.
  • Moderate dwell combines plushness with gritty traction.

Who It’s For

  • Versatile all-court players who switch roles mid-match, driving from the back, volleying at the net, and dinking in the kitchen.
  • Net-play aficionados are craving maximum feel and feedback at the kitchen line.
  • Players are trading power for precision in tight court spaces.

Pros

  • Superior spin potential (8/10) thanks to Kevlar grit.
  • Plush core soaks up vibration, easy on the arm.
  • Balanced pop and control, no surprise launches.

Cons

  • Slightly lower raw power than J2NF.
  • Not as crisp as pure carbon faces.

J2NFT - The “Goldilocks” Option

Feel & Balance

  • Titanium-PET + carbon face over foam core yields a soft yet muted snap.
  • Mid-range dwell: not too long, not too short.

Who It’s For

  • Spin specialists who live for heavy bites on serves, volleys, and third-shot drops.
  • Players seeking a single demo paddle to do everything reasonably well.
  • Those on the fence between plush and firm: You get the best of both worlds.

Pros

  • Excellent “just-right” pop (7/10) without harsh shock.
  • High spin rating (9/10) for creative shot-making.
  • Forgiving sweet spot with confident feedback.

Cons

  • Doesn’t excel at one single category: true jack-of-all-trades.
  • If you need absolute maximum power or plushness, you may feel it’s slightly dialed back.

Think about your primary playstyle and physical needs:

  • Elbow or shoulder concerns? Lean foam-heavy: FC+.
  • Power-hitting baseline warrior? You’ll love the NF’s firm, flat drives.
  • You’re a spinner or dink-fest champion? Kevlar-face NFK and Titanium Pet NFT will reward your finesse.
  • Need one demo paddle to do it all? Go with the NFT.

Once you know where you land on that spectrum, pick the paddle that aligns. and enjoy dialing in your game!

Comparison

First Feel: Smooth, Plush, Balanced

  • J2FC+: noticeable dwell, ball hangs on the face just a whisker longer. Drops, resets, topspin dinks? Effortless.
  • J2NF: dwell shortens a hair; launch angle sharpens; power shows up sooner.
  • J2NFK: a little more dwell than NF, but contact turns crisp.
  • J2NFT: sits right in between, soft but calm.

Power Without the Drama

  • FC+: swing weight hovers around 110, quick at the net yet packs a controlled punch.
  • NF: EVA ring + fiberglass-like zing; full cuts feel fireworks-esque.
  • NFK: tones the throttle for crisp-game maestros.
  • NFT: that “just-right” snappiness.

Sweet Spot & Forgiveness

Massive. True to the J2 bloodline, mishits stay in play far more than you deserve. FC+ stretches the sweet spot widest; NFT follows, then NFK and NF, but all four remain generously forgiving.

Control = Confidence

Quiet, stable, almost zero vibration. No “edge-hit” sting. Drops, dinks, thirds, all silky smooth.

  • NFK’s Kevlar laps up vibration like a sponge, giving you a crisp feel.
  • NFT’s Ti-PET face adds a sharper tick if you like audible feedback.

If foam-core paddles always felt too dead or too springy, these hit the Goldilocks zone.

How They Stack Up

  • Versus J2/J2K/J2Ti (Gen 2): noticeable jump in feel, sweet spot, versatility.
  • Versus J2K+ / J2Ti+ (Gen 3 “+”): Similar pop/power (J2NF has more) but far more predictability and durability (no three-month fizz-out).
  • Versus CRBN TruFoam Genesis: similarly plush and stable; FC+ and NF family feels slightly more punchy (despite 16 mm vs. CRBN’s 14 mm), probably because of the use of multi-density foam and more perimeter foam.
Model Power (1–10) Pop (1–10) Spin (1–10) Dwell
J2NF 9 8 8 Short
J2NFK 8 8 8 Medium
J2NFT 7 7 9 Medium
J2FC+ 8 7 9 Long
Alpha Pro Power 8 7 7 Long
CRBN TruFoam 7 7 8 Long
  • Highest power: J2NF (9)
  • Best pop: J2NF (8) and J2NFK tie (8)
  • Top spin: FC+ and J2NFT (9)
  • Dwell Time: J2FC+, Trufoam, and Alpha Pro Power

Decoding the Names (Deep Breath)

J2 (carbon) → J2K (Kevlar) → J2K+ (Kevlar + floating foam core) → J2FC+ (full foam + floating foam) → J2Ti / Ti+ → J2NF (full foam + carbon) → J2NFK (full foam + Kevlar) → J2NFT (full foam + Ti-PET) …and that’s only half the alphabet. “Gen 5” isn’t nuclear, it’s just their next evolutionary step.

Final Thoughts

The J2 full-foam line plugs a gap in the market: the first true full-foam hybrid paddles that blend control, hand speed, and soft power without surprise explosions. If you’re an all-court player looking for comfort, consistency, and just-right pop, without wrecking your shoulder or your wallet, put the J2FC+ and its NF siblings at the top of your demo list.
